It’s an old adage, but it invariably turns out to be true. And I find it’s more likely to be true depending on the intelligence and insightfulness of the people you speak with on any given day.
Today I was lucky to talk with three very intelligent and insightful folks in the form of Father Roderick Vonhogen, Jeff “Captain Jeff” Nielsen and James Bergin on the latest Google Hangout we’ve recorded, not surprisingly with a particular focus on all things papal. You can watch the Hangout here.
So what was the “something new” that I learnt today. Captain Jeff is a pilot, so he’s got a special interest in aviation. During the Hangout, he expressed his disappointment that when Pope Benedict boarded the papal helicopter for his flight from the Vatican to Castel Gandolfo on Thursday afternoon, he didn’t take his seat at the pilot’s controls. I thought it was a fine choice — but I wasn’t aware that the Pope Emeritus has a helicopter pilot’s licence, despite not actually having a driver’s licence.
So there you go. Fun fact for the day. And something you can use to impress your friends at a dinner party
